Highly Sensitive People

20% of the population are Highly Sensitive People (HSP). This is a gift that allows the nervous system and brain to process subtleties that most people do not experience.

The 4 Common Traits of a Highly Sensitive Person:

  1. Depth of Processing: The Sensitive brain has more insula, which helps enhance perception and self awareness. This means you are naturally highly attuned to take in more of the world and what is going on around you.

  2. Overstimulation: You may often feel overwhelmed and overstimulated by sounds, smells, crowds and lights.

  3. Empathy: You easily can imagine how other people and animals may be feeling. You often find yourself feeling the feelings of other people.

  4. Sensitive to Subtleties: You walk into a room and just know something may be going on that isn't being spoken about. You are highly tuned to the body language, tone of voice and expression of other people.

Struggles of Sensitive People

Most Sensitive People and Empaths have the feeling of being overstimulated and emotionally exhausted. Rest and self care are incredibly important.

 

Some struggles you may experience:

  • You feel easily overwhelmed. You take in a lot of extra information and it may difficult to filter out what is not yours to carry.

  • You experience anxiety or depression. Your emotions take over and when you can't process through the feelings, these stuck feelings can result in stuck energy which can lead to depression.

  • You have difficulty creating boundaries. You lose yourself in relationship with others. You forget your needs and desires until it is too late and then you feel resentful.

  • You often feel misunderstood. You feel different or more sensitive than others; this can lead to feelings of feeling different and like people don't understand you.

  • You don't like small talk. It may feel boring and unsatisfying. You want to go deeper and get to the heart of the relationship.

Your sensitivity is a gift! And in order to nurture that gift, downtime and rest is essential!

  • You are intuitive and observant. You often know or sense something about someone before they tell you. 

  • You are imaginative and creative. Your inner world is rich, vivid and full of magic.

  • You feel deeply connected to animals and nature.
